THE KING OF SPADES
WTF IS THE KING OF SPADES?
I'm making an "album" of original experimental animated short films called THE KING OF SPADES. By "album", I mean a feature-length film made up of a collection of original short films. Much like an album of music, the idea is that you can watch the entire collection strung out as a feature-length film that is roughly 40-45 minutes. OR, you can just watch the "singles". The "singles" will live as self-contained pieces, garnished with titles and credits, and also as compartments of the feature-length film, sans titles and credits.
But, WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
In cartomancy, fortune-telling that uses a standard deck of cards, the King of Spades is the most powerful and authoritative card in the deck. The themes of the films will deal with things like control, power, greed, authority, patriarchy, slavery mechanisms, and the eternal struggle between the dominators and the dominated; all toxic components of modern life. I generally have little-to-no trust in establishments of power and my worldview is a skeptical and cynical one, which makes for a lot of material to create films from.
WHY KINGS & SPADES?
A man of authority, ambition and power. Powerful, intense, demanding, controlling, secretive, possessive, charming, mysterious, calculating, detached. Maybe divorced or widowed, an older man, a leader, lawyer, judge, police officer, health specialist, man from a foreign country. Can be arrogant, opportunistic, deceptive, cold, calculating, shrewd, possessive, emotionally controlled, detached, a rival.
In the mundane, it denotes health and work. On the sinister side of the spade is negativity, problems, responsibilities, obligations, challenges, obstacles, mysteries, deceit, decisions, Karmic debts, addictions, setbacks, confinement, anxiety, sadness, failure, fear, illness, loss and death, winter, roadblocks to your path or other difficulties that could be a problem, antagonistic, power without responsibility.
KING OF SPADES MEANING
Though its full interpretation has to be linked to other cards from a reading, the King of spades is generally a synonym of conflict (both inner and outer) and reveals the presence of an obstacle. Its imposing status gives the king rigor and authority and is the most representative of the spade suit. The situations of conflict announced by the King of Spades can also be linked to excessive jealousy or revenge.
